Peterborough United striker undergoing medical with Coventry City

Peterborough United director of football Barry Fry has revealed that the club have agreed a fee with fellow League One side Coventry City over the sale of striker Matty Godden, who is now undergoing a medical with the Sky Blues.

We reported here on The72 earlier this week that Peterborough United had turned down an offer from Coventry City for striker Matty Godden, with the Posh setting their price tag for Godden at £750,000.

Now, it has been revealed that the Sky Blues have forked out the money to bring in Godden before the transfer window closes, with the club agreeing on a fee. The 28-year-old will now undergo a medical with the club and providing no late hitches a move will be completed before Thursday’s deadline.

Speaking to the Peterborough Telegraph upon the confirmation of the deal Fry had this to say:

“Matt is having a medical now.”

He was also asked if the agreed fee was the £750,000 price tag they placed on the former Stevenage man, to which Fry replied: “Of course or he wouldn’t be going would he?”

Fry has said previously: “Matt wants regular first-team football at his age. That’s what he told the manager and that’s understandable.”

Godden enjoyed a successful first season at Peterborough United, netting 18 goals in 48 games across all competitions. He endured a difficult spell in the middle of the season, scoring just one goal from October to March, but enjoyed an upturn in form in the closing months of the season upon the departure of Steve Evans and arrival of Darren Ferguson.
